New legislation will require the Maryland Public Service Commission to allow carriers to charge
residential customers for additional directory assistance calls.
The new law will prohibit the PSC from authorizing a telephone company to charge for:
(1) The first two calls to DA made by residential customers in each monthly billing cycle; and
(2) DA calls from individuals who suffer from a physical or visual disability that
precludes the use of a telephone directory.
However, the PSC must authorize charges for other DA calls.
