List of state, federal, other telecom regulatory activity from TMI

The Regulatory Mix, TMI’s daily blog of regulatory activities, is a snapshot of PUC, FCC, legislative, and occasionally court, issues that our regulatory monitoring team uncovers each day. Depending on their significance, some items may be the subject of a TMI Regulatory Bulletin.

The FCC announced an addition to the tentative agenda for its Open Meeting scheduled for Friday, August 9, 2013. See 7/25/13 Regulatory Mix. The agenda now includes consideration of a Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to reform interstate inmate calling services rates and practices.

US Senate
The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation announced it will hold an executive session on July 30, 2013, to markup several bills and nominations. Among the nominations to be considered is that of Thomas E. Wheeler, to be Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. The Committee is also scheduled to consider S. 1353, The Cybersecurity Act of 2013.

US House of Representatives
The House Committee on Energy and Commerce has scheduled a markup of the FCC Consolidated Reporting Act for July 31, 2013. Opening Statements will be heard on July 30, 2013. The bill, H.R. 2844, was formally introduced on July 26, 2013, by Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA). Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) was expected to introduce the Senate version on July 29, 2013. The legislation would combine eight annual reports into a single biennial Communications Marketplace Report and repeal the annual Telegraph Report, which was signed into law in 1934. The House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology passed the measure by voice vote on July 25, 2013. See the 7/29/13 Regulatory Mix and our 7/23/13 Blog posting.
