the regulatory mix from TMI

The Regulatory Mix, TMI’s daily blog of regulatory activities, is a snapshot of PUC, FCC, legislative, and occasionally court, issues that our regulatory monitoring team uncovers each day. Depending on their significance, some items may be the subject of a TMI Regulatory Bulletin.

New York

At a conference on emergency preparedness, Governor Cuomo unveiled a statewide Emergency Management Certification and Training Program that will establish uniform disaster response protocols for first responders and local officials. In addition, the Governor announced federal approval for New York’s request to use the federal Wireless Emergency Alert system when the state needs to send location-specific information to New Yorkers before, during, or after an emergency. The FCC is seeking comment on proposed changes to FCC Form 499-A, Form 499-Q, and accompanying instructions. Comments are due November 27, 2013. Watch for a TMI Bulletin.

FCC Commissioners

The U.S. Senate has confirmed the nominations of Thomas Wheeler and Michael O’Reilly to be members of the FCC. Mr. Wheeler, who will be designated as the Chairman of the FCC, will service for a term of five years from July 1, 2013. Mr. O’Reilly will serve for the remainder of the term expiring June 30, 2014. Once they are sworn in, the FCC will be up to its full complement of five commissioners.
