Today’s Regulatory Mix: Allconnect’s Guide to Internet Resources for Native Americans, Georgia Amends ETC Rules, Nevada Governor Approves Bill Creating Grant Program for Broadband Infrastructure

Allconnect’s Guide to Internet Resources for Native Americans

The first participants began enrolling in the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB Program) in mid-May and now exceeds 3 million households.  Yet as of July 2, only 75,880 households on Tribal lands have enrolled in the EBB Program despite Native American’s qualifying for the program at much higher rates. To help raise awareness about the availability of the EBB Program to Tribal communities, Allconnect has published an educational guide with very useful tools that include:

  • Information on the Emergency Broadband Benefit for Internet
  • Qualifications for the Enhanced Tribal Benefit program
  • How to Apply for Lifeline’s Initiative

Georgia Amends ETC Rules

The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) adopted additional amendments to its rules governing eligible telecommunications carriers (ETCs).  The change adds a new reporting obligation to submit certification to the PSC prior to August 1 of each year.  The rule change was filed with the Secretary of State on June 16, 2021 and will become effective July 6, 2021.  Inteserra Briefing Service subscribers see Briefing dated 6/25/21

Nevada Governor Approves Bill Creating Grant Program for Broadband Infrastructure

Bill No. 388, approved by the Governor on June 8, requires the Director of the Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (the Director) to administer a program of infrastructure grants for the development of broadband for low income and rural areas of the state. The bill also requires the State Treasurer to establish by regulation a program for voluntary customer contribution for broadband infrastructure.  This bill became effective upon passage for the purpose of adopting regulations and other administrative tasks. Inteserra Briefing Service subscribers see Briefing dated 7/1/21

The Regulatory Mix, Inteserra’s blog of telecom related regulatory activities, is a snapshot of PUC, FCC, legislative, and occasionally court issues that our regulatory monitoring team uncovers each day. Depending on their significance, some items may be the subject of an Inteserra Briefing.
